Camilo Rian Orthodontics is your top-rated orthodontist in San Francisco and the surrounding area. We specialize in hidden braces like Invisalign, Lingual Braces, and clear ceramic braces. Typically, when people think of clear braces, they think of Invisalign, but there’s another option out there for you to consider: clear ceramic braces. In this blog, we’re going to take a look at some of the top questions patients have about these braces and how you can benefit from them. If you have any questions, don’t wait to call our office today.
What Are Ceramic Braces?
Clear ceramic braces look similar to traditional metal braces, adhering to the front of the teeth with brackets and wires. However, they’re made of a clear ceramic material and the brackets are slightly smaller than those on traditional braces. The wire can either be white or silver making it very difficult or impossible to see from a few feet away.
Do They Stain?
One of the first questions many people have about ceramic braces is, “will they stain?” Fortunately, it’s not easy to stain the actual brackets or wires themselves. However, the bands that attach to brackets can get stained. These will get replaced every couple of weeks so you shouldn’t have to worry about it too much. If staining is a concern, be sure to watch out for foods and drinks such as coffee, tomato sauce, curry, or fruits like blueberries and always wash your mouth out after eating.
Are They As Effective As Metal Braces?
Having clear ceramic braces applied is pretty much the same process as with traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces are just as strong as their metal counterparts so your orthodontist will use the same amount of force to move your teeth. The amount one time that you wear your braces will depend on how badly misaligned your teeth are.
Who’s The Ideal Candidate For Ceramic Braces?
Ceramic braces are great for people of all ages, however, they’re more popular among adults and teens who are able to watch what they’re eating and are interested in some form of hidden braces. Here at Camilo Riano Orthodontics, we will help you consider all of your options before you commit to ceramic braces.
